Americans turn to Google for answers and information about every topic, including the Bible.
In 2015, “Bible” remained a high frequency search term throughout the year. According to Google’s rankings, which scores terms from 0 to 100 with the higher number being the most frequently searched, the Bible never dipped below 70.
Several times during the year, the Bible shot to the top of the rankings, including Easter, Christmas, and surrounding the gay marriage ruling at the end of June.
Google also revealed the cities and states who Googled it most frequently. The South dominated both lists.
The top 10 states were:
- Mississippi
- Alabama
- Arkansas
- Tennessee
- South Carolina
- Georgia
- West Virginia
- Kentucky
- North Carolina
- Louisiana
The top 10 cities searching on Google for “Bible” in 2015 were:
- Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
- Nashville, Tennessee
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Louisville, Kentucky
- Dallas, Texas
- Augusta, Georgia
- Charlotte, North Carolina
- Houston, Texas

The search engine’s list closely mirrors the American Bible Society’s most Bible minded cities and Pew Research’s findings of the most evangelical states.
