Religion returns to prime time Monday night, February 26, with the debut of a new sitcom focused on fictional film critic Chip Curry. The series is based on A.J. Jacobs’ best-selling book, The Year of Living Biblically.
IMB search team expected to be announced
David Platt announced his transition away from the presidency of the International Mission Board earlier this month.
The board of trustees for the Southern Baptist missionary-sending agency will convene this week and is expected to announce the formation of a search team tasked with finding Platt’s successor.
Trafficking bill hits the House floor
Congresswoman Ann Wagner, a Republican from Missouri, is scheduled to bring H.R. 1865 to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives this week.
“Online trafficking is flourishing because there are no serious, legal consequences for the websites that profit from the exploitation of our most vulnerable,” said Rep. Wagner.
The bill is designed to protect the rights of sex-trafficking victims and equip state and local prosecutors to go after websites that profit from exploitation.
Second Amendment debates continue; NRA in the spotlight
In the aftermath of the latest deadly school shooting, debates over the scope of the Second Amendment have reached a new level.
The National Rifle Association is facing public scrutiny and backlash from commercial partners including Delta, United, Hertz, Enterprise, Wyndham, Best Western, Symantec, and MetLife.
Those companies and their subsidiaries have already ended partner programs with the NRA.
