“On the Horizon” is a preview of newsworthy events coming within the next week.
Holy Week Features in the Media
With this being Holy Week on the Christian calendar, expect a bevy of features on Easter, Christianity, and Jesus from secular news sources. I bet Buzzfeed is still upset John Piper beat them to the punch with 50 Reasons Jesus Came to Die.
Reactions to the Bill Hybels News Continue
After last week’s news from the Chicago Tribune about the allegations of impropriety by Willow Creek pastor Bill Hybels, reactions are coming forth from the church, the community, and evangelicalism at large. Don’t miss this great piece from Andy Crouch at The Gospel Coalition on celebrity power.
God’s (Still) Not Dead
Following a sluggish opening weekend by Paul, An Apostle of Christ ($5 million box office), the third installment of the God’s Not Dead series opens this coming weekend. Both movies are chasing I Can Only Imagine, which continued its strong showing this weekend with another third-place finish and $15 million in box office receipts bringing its total to nearly $40 million.
God’s Not Dead opens in approximately 1,500 theaters this weekend, but I don’t expect it to top the Erwin Brothers’ film, which should cross the $50 million box office total this week.
Sister Jean Is Headed to the Final Four
The Loyola University, Chicago Ramblers and their 98-year old chaplain Sister Jean Dolores-Schmidt are San Antonio bound. Just the fourth 11-seed in NCAA tournament history to make the Final Four, Loyola is looking to continue its Cinderella run as it takes on Michigan on Saturday for a spot in next Monday’s national championship game.
Music for Your Resurrection Sunday
Singer, songwriter Andrew Peterson’s latest work Resurrection Letters, Volume 1 releases Saturday. The much-anticipated release is a prequel to 2008’s Resurrection Letters, Volume 2, and features nine new songs including “Is He Worthy?” and “His Heart Beats.”
