Travis Greene on His Music and Ministry

Uncategorized | Jul 20, 2018

Travis Greene music ministry

Grammy-nominated Travis Greene debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart with his latest album Crossover: Live From Music City. Its lead single “You Waited” hit #1 on the Hot Gospel Songs chart.

In 2016, the singer and his wife, Dr. Jackie Greene, launched Forward City Church in Columbia, South Carolina, which he describes as “a church for the unchurched and over-churched.”

He recently sat down with Facts & Trends to talk about his musical journey, his songwriting process, and advice for your artists.

Advice for your artists

[04:51] If you’re not careful, sometimes you could replace the presence of God with the presents of God, the gifts of God.

[05:14] Your gifts can take you to a place where your character can’t keep you unless you allow God to do His work in you.

On songwriting

[06:13] I have an unfair advantage because I’m a pastor so I preach every week. I’m always thinking; I’m always creating; I’m always researching. I’m a melody away from being able to sing anything because of the time I spend with God and because of the amount of effort I put into always preparing.

That, for me, makes writing easy, you know. But before I was pastoring, most of the songs were written from prayers, you know, prayer time with God or just reflecting on what was specifically happening in a moment of my life.

This is part two of the interview. For part one, click here to hear Travis share about taking the gospel into difficult places and how Christians should approach culture.
