Be Joyous in the Lord

Uncategorized | Jul 20, 2018

King of the Earth

1 Sing a new song to the Lord;
let the whole earth sing to the Lord.

2 Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
proclaim his salvation from day to day.

3 Declare his glory among the nations,
his wondrous works among all peoples.

4 For the Lord is great and is highly praised;
he is feared above all gods.

5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.

6 Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

7 Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

8 Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name;
bring an offering and enter his courts.

9 Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness;
let the whole earth tremble before him.

10 Say among the nations: “The Lord reigns.
The world is firmly established; it cannot be shaken.
He judges the peoples fairly.”

11 Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice;
let the sea and all that fills it resound.

12 Let the fields and everything in them celebrate.
Then all the trees of the forest will shout for joy

13 before the Lord, for he is coming—
for he is coming to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness
and the peoples with his faithfulness.

How amazing is it to be able to enjoy the Lord as much as we can? In the verses above we can read how David sang praises to God’s name with such joy and thanksgiving, even though he had such a rollercoaster of a life.

I want to bring a word of encouragement to you, and that is: to be joyous in the Lord. At many points in our lives we feel like we want to pull our hair out. (BTW, I am bald!) But as David found himself meditating in the Lord, he understood his joy was the Lord himself, knowing and trusting in the King who was his salvation day-by-day.

I can imagine the visions that the man “after God’s own heart” had of the future. A future where the Lord would reign over all kingdoms of the world.That all nations and peoples would be declaring the glory of the Lord. He knew that his God would ultimately be known as the one true God.

David also knew that the Lord would have people who proclaim His glory and wondrous works in every nation and amongst every peoples. Ladies and gents, those peoples are us. We are called to proclaim the Glory of the Lord—our King Jesus, who is the glory of the Lord—to the nations and peoples. As we work daily in our jobs, at home with our kids, shop in our supermarkets, we should look to spread the Gospel, spread his wondrous works. And sometimes it’s easy to overlook this fact. We sometimes overlook it because of the busyness, work deadlines, sport practices for kids, and other things that are so routine that they can become an obstacle to seeing the vision that we all once had of helping to spread the gospel to all nations and peoples.

We are part of something amazing. We all can be a part of what David saw happening in the future, sitting in his rocking chair on the porch (or something like that).

Let’s rejoice in the Lord, let’s be glad in Him, and let’s sing a new song. Let the reward at this time be the joy of the Lord in our hearts and souls because Jesus will always be King.

Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people, knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23 (CSB)
